Connecting to CR using Windows 98

This is a step-by-step guide to configuring Windows 98 for connecting to CR. Setting up Windows 98 for Internet access is very easy and virtually painless. The key is to take your time and don't rush. Simply follow the instructions below and you shouldn't have a problem!!
Step #1 Create a CR "DIAL-UP NETWORKING" Connection:



  1. Double click on "My Computer" icon.
  2. Double click on the "Dial-Up Networking" folder.
  3. Double click on "Make New Connection" icon.
  4. Name the new connection "CR".
  5. Click on the "Configure" button.
  6. On the "General" tab select your com port and maximum port speed.
  7. Click on the "Options" tab.
  8. Make sure that "Bring up terminal window after dialing" is not checked and then click the "OK" button.
  9. Click the "Next" button.
  10. Type in the Number you dial to reach CR.
  11. Click the "Next" button.
  12. Click the "Finish" button.

Step #2 Configuring the CR "DIAL-UP NETWORKING" Connection:






  1. Right click on the CR connection icon.


  2. Click "Properties" and you'll get this screen:


  3. Now click the "Server Type" button.


Configure the Server Type:
  1. You should now be seeing a window that looks like the one to the right.
  2. In the Type of Dial up Server, select "PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98".
  3. In the upper section, make sure the only item selected is "Enable Software Compression".
  4. In the lower section,make sure the only item selected is "TCP/IP"
  5. Click "OK".
Step #3 Login Procedure (First Time):



Now you're ready to give it a try. Just follow the steps below :
  1. Double click on the "CR" icon.
  2. Type in your "User Name" (It's the same as your Login Name).
  3. Type in your "Password". (You won't have to type in your user name and password for future connections.)
  4. Check "Save Password".
  5. Click the "Connect" button.
  6. After a few seconds (actually it might be as long as 60 seconds) the window will change to a small window with a "Disconnect" button. This means your are connected and are online!!!!
  7. You can now launch whatever Internet applications you want to use. Like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

Connecting to CR using Windows 2000

1. Go to Start / Settings / Network and Dial-Up Connections or Right-click on the My Network Places icon.

2. Click on the Make New Connection icon

3. Click on the Next button

4. Check Dial-up private network and click on the Next button

5. Enter in the local phone number from CR.

6. Check whether this is for all user or just the one that is logged in and whether you want a shortcut on your desktop.

7. The default username will be the one you logged in with. Change this to whatever your CR Login name is. You can also enter in the password as well.

8. To get additional settings you can configure, click on the Properties button

9. You can set it to show an icon on the desktop when connected.

10. Click on the Configure button to change the modem settings.

11. Click on the Options tab to change the login options. My preference is to just have Display progress while connecting checked

12. Click on the Networking tab. You can just have Internet Protocol checked

13. You should then see the Network and Dial-Up Connections section with your new icon. You can simply drag a shortcut of  this icon to another location

Setting up Windows ME to CR

 

Windows Me Internet Connection Wizard 5.5

This document is directed at customers using Windows Me and it's Internet Connection Wizard. The Internet Connection Wizard creates a connection to Powercom. What you see on your screen may be slightly different and/or in a different order than what the instructions indicate. Please feel free to look ahead and choose what you believe is the most logical setting at each setup screen. If you should make a mistake, use the Connection Wizard's "Back" button to go navigate back one or more steps.

1. Starting the Internet Connection Wizard

  • Click on "Start."
  • Click on "Settings."
  • Click on "Control Panel."
  • Double-click on "Internet Options."
  • Click on the "Connection" tab.
  • Click on "Setup..."
2. Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard
  • Select the 3rd option.
  • Click on "Next."

3. Setting up your Internet connection
  • Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem."
  • Click on "Next."

4. Step 1 of 3: Internet account connection information
  • Type in your area code in the "Area code" field.
  • Type in the dial-up number that you were assigned by Powercom in the "Telephone number:" field. Click here for a list of Powercom dial-up numbers. This will open a new web browser.
  • Uncheck the box "Dial using the area code and country code."
  • Click on "Advanced..."

5. Advanced Connection Properties - Connection
  • Select "PPP (Point to Point Protocol)" under "Connection Type."
  • Select "None" under "Logon procedure."
  • Click on the "Addresses" tab.

6. Advanced Connection Properties - Addresses
  • Select "Internet service provider automatically provides one" beneath "IP address."
  • Select "My ISP automatically provides a Domain Name Server (DNS) address".
    • If you have problems with retrieving web pages or retrieving e-mail, follow these steps. Otherwise, click on "OK" followed by "Next" on the following screen.
      • Select "Always use the following:" beneath "DNS server address."
      • Type 216.114.0.3 in the "Primary DNS server:"
      • Type 216.114.0.5 in the "Alternate DNS server:"
  • Click on "OK."
  • Click on "Next" on the following screen."

7. Step 2 of 3: Internet account logon information
  • Type in your username in all lower case letters in the "User name:" field.
  • Type in your password in the appropriate case in the "Password:" field.
  • Click on "Next."

8. Step 3 of 3: Configuring your computer
  • Type Powercom in the "Connection name:" field.
  • Click on "Next."

9. Set Up Your Internet Mail Account
  • Select "Yes."
  • Click on "Next."

10. Your Name
  • Type in your full name as you would like it to appear on all of your e-mail messages in the "Display name:" field.
  • Click on "Next."

11. Internet E-mail Address

  • Type in your e-mail address in the "E-mail address:" field. (ex. johndoe@powercom.net)
  • Click on "Next."

12. E-mail Server Names

  • Verify that "POP3" is selected for the incoming mail server.
  • Type mail.powercom.net in the "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server:"
  • Type mail.powercom.net in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:"
  • Click on "Next."

13. Internet Mail Logon
  • Type in your username in all lower case letters in the "Account name:" field.
  • Type in your password in the appropriate case in the "Password:" field.
  • Click on "Next."

14. Completing the Internet Connection Wizard
  • Make sure that you are not using the phone line that your computer is hooked up to and click on "Finish."
To connect to Powercom regularly, do the following:
  • Double-click on "Internet Explorer" or "Outlook Express" located on your desktop to visit the World Wide Web or send and receive e-mail, respectively.
  • You should be prompted for a screen to connect to Powercom. Click on "Connect" to establish your connection to Powercom.

Internet Setup for iMac 

This document is directed at customers using iMAc's Internet Setup Assistant.  The Internet Setup Assistant creates a connection to CR. What you see on your screen may be slightly different and/or in a different order than what the instructions indicate. Please feel free to look ahead and choose what you believe is the most logical setting at each setup screen. If you should make a mistake, use the Assistants "Back" button to go navigate back one or more steps.

1. Go Into the Assistants folder on hard drive. Double-click the Internet Setup Assistant. Click Yes.

3. Click Yes.

5. Type in FCG Networks for the name of configuration. Put dot next to "Modem" and click on right arrow.

6. Everything should be default here. If you have Pulse dialing then put the dot next to "Pulse. Click on the right arrow.

7. Type in your local access phone number. Type in your 'username' in the next field and then type in your 'password' in the last field. Click on the right arrow.

8. Put the dot next to "No". Click on the right arrow.

10. Type in 208.210.86.2 and 208.210.86.3 for the DNS addresses. Type in fcgnetworks.net for the Domain Name. Click on the right arrow.

11. Type in your e-mail address in the first field. Make sure there are no spaces. Type in your 'password' in the second field. Make sure its in lowercase. Click on the right arrow.

12. Type in your username@pop.fcgnetworks.net make sure there are no spaces. Type in 'smtp.fcgnetworks.net' for the SMTP field. Click on the right arrow.

13. Type in 'premium. news.fcgnetworks.net' for the NNTP server. Click on the right arrow.

14. Put dot next to "No". Click on the right arrow.

15. You are now ready to connect online. If you put a check next to "Connect when finished" and hit "Go Ahead" it will automatically connect you on the Internet. If you want to connect online later then leave checkmark out and click on "Go Ahead".
