Connecting using Windows 98

This is a step-by-step guide to configuring Windows 98 for connecting to Coop Resources. Setting up Windows 98 for internet access is very easy and virtually painless. The key is to take your time and don't rush. Simply follow the instructions below and you shouldn't have a problem!!
The setup is divided into three sections:
  1. Creating a Dial-up Networking Connection
  2. Configuring the Dial-up Connection
  3. Logging on
Step #1 Create a "DIAL-UP NETWORKING" Connection:



  1. Double click on "My Computer" icon.
  2. Double click on the "Dial-Up Networking" folder.
  3. Double click on "Make New Connection" icon.
  4. Name the new connection "Coop Resources2".
  5. Click on the "Configure" button.
  6. On the "General" tab select your com port and maximum port speed.
  7. Click on the "Options" tab.
  8. Make sure that "Bring up terminal window after dialing" is not checked and then click the "OK" button.
  9. Click the "Next" button.
  10. Type in the Number you dial to reach Coop Resources.
  11. Click the "Next" button.
  12. Click the "Finish" button.

Step #2 Configuring the "DIAL-UP NETWORKING" Connection:






  1. Right click on the Coop Resources connection icon.


  2. Click "Properties" and you'll get this screen:


  3. Now click the "Server Type" button.


Configure the Server Type:
  1. You should now be seeing a window that looks like the one to the right.
  2. In the Type of Dial up Server, select "PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98".
  3. In the upper section, make sure the only item selected is "Enable Software Compression".
  4. In the lower section make sure the only item selected is "TCP/IP"
  5. Click "OK".
Step #3 Login Procedure (First Time):



Now you're ready to give it a try. Just follow the steps below :
  1. Double click on the "Coop Resources2" icon.
  2. Type in your "User Name" (Remember to include the -0005).
  3. Type in your "Password". (You won't have to type in your user name and password for future connections.)
  4. Check "Save Password".
  5. Click the "Connect" button.
  6. After a few seconds (actually it might be as long as 60 seconds) the window will change to a small window with a "Disconnect" button. This means your are connected and are online!!!!
  7. You can now launch whatever Internet applications you want to use. Like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
